To increase awareness of the ICT industry as a career destination for school leavers and university students, the ICT Capacity Building Programme of the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka allocated funds to hold career fairs (CF) in regional locations where students from the surrounding schools will also be invited.

In 2007, Ministry of Education career counsellors and industry professionals participated in providing IT-BPO career awareness and guidance for over 5,000 school children from Colombo and outskirts. Next, the objective was to replicate the career fair held in Colombo on a regional level.

 

Career fairs were held in the following locations:  Kandy Kurunegala  Badulla  Galle  Anuradhapura  Matara   Career Fairs will be held in the following locations: Ratnapura Hambantota

The career fairs provided participants from regional schools (parents of schoolgoing children and university students are a secondary audience) with information on the ICT industry, specifically employment opportunities and the requisite skills, knowledge and attitudes required to enter those positions.

The aim is to raise the profile of the ICT industry as a career destination and by providing information on requisite skill sets provide students with the means to better prepare themselves for an ICT career and ultimately raise the level of skills on entry in the industry.
